After seven years from the last HIM album Tears on Tape and a little bit more than two from the final farewell gig at the Tavastia, we finally have among us the latest solo project by Ville Valo: Gothica Fennica Vol.1.
The album title is in latin, which translated in english means: Finnish Gothic Vol. 1. It features also a new redesigned Heartagram logo, with another “V” set inside it, forming the initials of the finnish love metaller: “VV” (Ville Valo).
The announce arrived from the ex-HIM facebook page (which counts now over 1.5 million followers), called nowadays simply Heartagram. The chapter was also published on www.heartagram.com, the former page of the HIM band, now the home of the new Ville Valo project(s).
Regarding the lineup of this project, we don’t have any information about it. Some rumors claim that Migé Amour is on bass, but it is not confirmed.
Nonetheless, the sound is very reminiscent of the love metal that HIM has accustomed us to over the past few decades.
And now for something completely different…Ville Hermanni Valo
Gothica Fennica Vol.1 Tracklist
The project, which is comprised by three songs, arrived on the 20th of March 2020 in a very unusual fashion. In fact, there hasn’t been any promotion or teaser before the publishing. The tracklist is the following:
- Salute the sanguine (5:06)
- Run away from the sun (4:12)
- Saturnine Saturnalia (6:39)
By noticing the “Vol. 1” suffix, we might expect to see in the future more volumes of this project.

The new Ville Valo project finally arrived
As we expected last year, the new project by Ville Valo finally arrived, or at least part of it. In fact, Valo released some time ago an interview (follow the previous link to read it) where he said that as many as 15 songs were waiting to be finished.
Can we therefore expect other tracks, so also other chapters of Gothica Fennica? We will keep you updated.
